Description

MERCURY Cast iron radiator

This model features an “industrial” style, similar to nineteenth-century English style.

It is no coincidence that it is reminiscent of the period of the Industrial Revolution, like the Grace model, with a clean surface and rounded shapes.

It is made by Castrads, a foundry with 20 years’ experience.

Founded in Cheshire, UK, as a small family business, it now has headquarters in four countries around the world, employing more than 60 people.

Indeed, the manufacturing base remains in Manchester, while an assembly factory is located in Poland.

In London and New York, Castrads has instead opened two showrooms.

Despite the rapid rise, the specialization has not changed: the main product is and will always be the cast iron radiator.

So they continue to create elegant, very luxurious radiators.

Technical characteristics of MERCURY Cast iron radiator

Why a cast iron radiator?

Cast iron is a ferrous alloy consisting mainly of iron and carbon, obtained by hot reduction of iron minerals.

It is not a moldable or malleable material, but it possesses excellent fusibility at moderate temperatures.

Over the years it has become a reference material in the plumbing and heating world, becoming the radiator par excellence.

Cast iron is an alloy with a composition practically identical to steel, but with a high percentage of carbon, which gives it greater hardness and a lower thermal expansion coefficient.

This fundamental characteristic of cast iron, added to the lubricating effect of carbon, makes it suitable for combinations where there are temperature variations.

For this reason, cast iron has been used for many years in the construction of radiators by casting.

In fact, the production process of these Liberty radiators is as interesting as it is fascinating.

The presence of carbon in large quantities also has a notable anti-rust function.

Here are summarized some of the fundamental characteristics of this material:

  • wear resistance;
  • ductile and easily workable with machine tools;
  • possibility of creating very complex and worked shapes by simple casting;
  • excellent fusibility;
  • hardness.

These radiators  are packed one by one in a wooden box and delivery is also made on pallets.

These radiators are finished by hand and normally take 4 weeks from ordering.

Quality control is also a time-consuming process and is carried out for any radiator.
